27-SUMMARY
Does your flesh really want to conform to the ways of Christ? Do you really want to conform to the ways of Christ? It should be a pastor’s goal to help each of those under him (as God directs him) to become more like Jesus in every way. Is this your desire? When you are corrected, are you thankful or resentful? What is your first emotion? Consider, what would have happened to Peter, if Jesus chose not to correct him, because he became easily offended and did not desire correction?
Is there anyone that should not desire correction? We all need to be corrected. Often, we are corrected for something we are doing that is biblically incorrect, yet we may think it is right. Thus, we each need correction in order to grow.
If we each knew perfectly what is right and wrong in the eyes of God, would we not be walking just like Jesus? If we are not currently walking just like Jesus, does this not indicate that we need much correction? How is it then that those who need correction the most, often seek it the least?
Some Christians desire and ask for correction. Others refuse to come and ask (to find out if they are doing something that is not in line with the Bible). Some will hear correction often and show remorse (or godly sorrow for their sins), but afterward, they do not change.
2-IF WITHOUT CHASTISEMENT, THEN ARE YE BASTARDS
It is written, WHO CHANGED THE TRUTH OF GOD INTO A LIE, AND WORSHIPPED AND SERVED
THE CREATURE MORE THAN THE CREATOR, WHO IS BLESSED FOR EVER. AMEN-Ro 1:25.
AND YE HAVE FORGOTTEN THE EXHORTATION
WHICH SPEAKETH UNTO YOU AS UNTO CHILDREN, MY SON,
DESPISE NOT THOU THE CHASTENING
OF THE LORD,
NOR FAINT WHEN THOU ART REBUKED
OF HIM:
FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVETH HE
CHASTENETH,
AND SCOURGETH EVERY SON WHOM
HE RECEIVETH.
IF YE ENDURE CHASTENING, GOD
DEALETH WITH YOU AS WITH SONS;
FOR WHAT SON IS HE WHOM
THE FATHER CHASTENETH NOT?
BUT IF YE BE WITHOUT CHASTISEMENT,
WHEREOF ALL ARE PARTAKERS, THEN ARE YE BASTARDS, AND NOT SONS.
FURTHERMORE, WE HAVE HAD FATHERS
OF OUR FLESH WHICH CORRECTED US, AND WE GAVE THEM REVERENCE: SHALL WE NOT MUCH
RATHER BE IN SUBJECTION UNTO THE FATHER OF SPIRITS, AND LIVE? FOR THEY VERILY
FOR A FEW DAYS CHASTENED US AFTER THEIR OWN PLEASURE;
BUT HE FOR OUR PROFIT,
THAT WE MIGHT BE PARTAKERS
OF HIS HOLINESS.
NOW NO CHASTENING FOR THE PRESENT
SEEMETH TO BE JOYOUS, BUT GRIEVOUS:
NEVERTHELESS AFTERWARD IT YIELDETH
THE PEACEABLE FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
UNTO THEM WHICH ARE EXERCISED
THEREBY-Heb 12:5-11.
3-CORRECTION IS GRIEVOUS TO SOME
The Bible tells us that CORRECTION IS GRIEVOUS UNTO HIM THAT FORSAKETH THE WAY:
AND HE THAT HATETH REPROOF
SHALL DIE-Pv 15:10.
It is written, BEHOLD, HAPPY IS THE MAN WHOM GOD CORRECTETH:
THEREFORE DESPISE NOT THOU
THE CHASTENING OF THE ALMIGHTY-Job 5:17.
MY SON, DESPISE NOT
THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD;
NEITHER BE WEARY OF HIS CORRECTION:
5-WHOM THE LORD LOVETH, HE CORRECTETH
It is written, FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVETH HE CORRECTETH; EVEN AS A FATHER THE SON IN WHOM HE DELIGHTETH-Pv 3:11,12.
Thou
shalt also CONSIDER IN THINE HEART, THAT, AS A MAN CHASTENETH HIS SON, SO
THE LORD THY GOD CHASTENETH THEE-Deut 8:5.
WHEN THOU WITH REBUKES DOST
CORRECT MAN FOR INIQUITY, THOU MAKEST HIS BEAUTY TO CONSUME AWAY LIKE A MOTH:
SURELY EVERY MAN IS VANITY. SELAH-Ps 39:11.
BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOM
THOU CHASTENEST, O LORD, AND TEACHEST HIM OUT OF THY LAW-Ps
94:12.
THEN SAID HE UNTO ME, FEAR
NOT, DANIEL: FOR FROM THE FIRST DAY THAT THOU DIDST SET THINE HEART TO UNDERSTAND,
AND TO CHASTEN THYSELF BEFORE THY GOD, THY WORDS WERE HEARD, AND I AM COME FOR
THY WORDS-Dan 10:12.
6-DO YOU ASK FOR CORRECTION FROM GOD?
Can you say this? O LORD, CORRECT ME, BUT WITH JUDGMENT; NOT IN THINE ANGER,
LEST THOU BRING ME TO NOTHING-Jere 10:24.
It is written, I WILL HEAR
WHAT GOD THE LORD WILL SPEAK: FOR HE WILL SPEAK PEACE UNTO HIS PEOPLE, AND
TO HIS SAINTS: BUT LET THEM NOT TURN AGAIN TO FOLLY-Ps 85:8.
MAKE ME TO UNDERSTAND THE
WAY OF THY PRECEPTS: SO SHALL I TALK
OF THY WONDROUS WORKS-Ps 119:27.
SEARCH ME,
O GOD, AND KNOW MY HEART: TRY ME, AND KNOW MY THOUGHTS:
AND SEE IF THERE BE ANY WICKED WAY IN ME, AND LEAD ME IN THE
WAY EVERLASTING-Ps 139:23,24.
CAUSE ME TO HEAR THY LOVING-KINDNESS
IN THE MORNING; FOR IN THEE DO I TRUST: CAUSE ME TO KNOW THE WAY WHEREIN I SHOULD
WALK; FOR I LIFT UP MY SOUL UNTO THEE-Ps 143:8.
7-WHOSO LOVETH INSTRUCTION, LOVETH KNOWLEDGE
It is also written, WHOSO LOVETH INSTRUCTION (correction) LOVETH KNOWLEDGE: BUT HE THAT HATETH REPROOF (correction) IS BRUTISH (or stupid). THE WAY OF A FOOL IS RIGHT IN HIS OWN EYES: BUT HE THAT HEARKENETH UNTO COUNSEL IS WISE-Pv 12:1,15.
8-WE ARE TO RECEIVE CORRECTION
We are to RECEIVE WITH MEEKNESS THE ENGRAFTED WORD, WHICH IS ABLE TO SAVE YOUR
SOULS-Ja 1:21.
Jesus says, AS MANY AS I LOVE,
I REBUKE AND CHASTEN: BE ZEALOUS THEREFORE, AND REPENT-Rev 3:19.
The heavenly Father further
exhorts us to HEAR INSTRUCTION, AND BE WISE, AND REFUSE IT NOT-Pv 8:33.
9-IN THE MULTITUDE OF COUNSELORS, THERE IS SAFETY
It is written, WHERE NO COUNSEL IS, THE PEOPLE
FALL: BUT IN THE MULTITUDE OF COUNSELORS THERE IS SAFETY-Pv 11:14.
FOR THE COMMANDMENT IS A LAMP;
AND THE LAW IS LIGHT; AND REPROOFS OF INSTRUCTION ARE THE WAY OF LIFE-Pv
6:23.
CORRECTIONS OF DISCIPLINE ARE
THE WAY TO LIFE-NIV.
The prophet Jeremiah prayed, O LORD, ARE NOT THINE EYES UPON THE TRUTH? THOU
HAST STRICKEN THEM, BUT THEY HAVE NOT GRIEVED; THOU HAST CONSUMED THEM, BUT
THEY HAVE REFUSED TO RECEIVE CORRECTION: THEY HAVE MADE THEIR FACES
HARDER THAN A ROCK; THEY HAVE REFUSED TO RETURN-Jere 5:3.
SMITE A SCORNER, AND THE SIMPLE
WILL BEWARE: AND REPROVE (correct) ONE THAT HATH UNDERSTANDING,
AND HE WILL UNDERSTAND KNOWLEDGE-Pv 19:25.
11-WOE UNTO YOU, IF YOU HATE INSTRUCTION AND DESPISE CORRECTION
Let us receive correction now, as a little child, that we may not say at the
end of our days, HOW HAVE I HATED INSTRUCTION, AND MY HEART DESPISED
REPROOF; AND HAVE NOT OBEYED THE VOICE OF MY TEACHERS, NOR INCLINED
MINE EAR TO THEM THAT INSTRUCTED ME!-Pv 5:12,13.
HE SHALL DIE WITHOUT INSTRUCTION;
AND IN THE GREATNESS OF HIS FOLLY HE SHALL GO ASTRAY-Pv 5:23.
HE IS IN THE WAY OF LIFE THAT
KEEPETH INSTRUCTION: BUT HE THAT REFUSETH REPROOF ERRETH-Pv 10:17.
He that BEING OFTEN REPROVED
HARDENETH HIS NECK, SHALL SUDDENLY BE DESTROYED, AND THAT WITHOUT REMEDY-Pv
29:1.
It is written, A WISE SON HEARETH
HIS FATHER’S INSTRUCTION: BUT A SCORNER HEARETH NOT REBUKE-Pv 13:1.
12-EXAMPLES OF JESUS CORRECTING HIS DISCIPLES:
13-Mk 10:13-16—Suffer The Little Children
Jesus corrected His disciples. It is written, AND THEY BROUGHT YOUNG CHILDREN TO HIM, THAT HE SHOULD TOUCH THEM: AND HIS DISCIPLES REBUKED THOSE THAT BROUGHT THEM. BUT WHEN JESUS SAW IT, HE WAS MUCH DISPLEASED, AND SAID UNTO THEM, SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN TO COME UNTO ME, AND FORBID THEM NOT: FOR OF SUCH IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD. VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, WHOSOEVER SHALL NOT RECEIVE THE KINGDOM OF GOD AS A LITTLE CHILD, HE SHALL NOT ENTER THEREIN. AND HE TOOK THEM UP IN HIS ARMS, PUT HIS HANDS UPON THEM, AND BLESSED THEM.
14-Lk 9:51-56—Command Fire To Come Down From Heaven
Jesus corrected His disciples. It is written, AND IT CAME TO PASS, WHEN THE TIME WAS COME THAT HE SHOULD BE RECEIVED UP, HE STEDFASTLY SET HIS FACE TO GO TO JERUSALEM, AND SENT MESSENGERS BEFORE HIS FACE: AND THEY WENT, AND ENTERED INTO A VILLAGE OF THE SAMARITANS, TO MAKE READY FOR HIM. AND THEY DID NOT RECEIVE HIM, BECAUSE HIS FACE WAS AS THOUGH HE WOULD GO TO JERUSALEM. AND WHEN HIS DISCIPLES JAMES AND JOHN SAW THIS, THEY SAID, LORD, WILT THOU THAT WE COMMAND FIRE TO COME DOWN FROM HEAVEN, AND CONSUME THEM, EVEN AS ELIAS DID? BUT HE TURNED, AND REBUKED THEM, AND SAID, YE KNOW NOT WHAT MANNER OF SPIRIT YE ARE OF. FOR THE SON OF MAN IS NOT COME TO DESTROY MEN’S LIVES, BUT TO SAVE THEM. AND THEY WENT TO ANOTHER VILLAGE.
15-Mk 8:31-33—Get Thee Behind Me, Satan
Peter was rebuked by Jesus. AND HE BEGAN TO TEACH THEM, THAT THE SON OF MAN MUST SUFFER MANY THINGS, AND BE REJECTED OF THE ELDERS, AND OF THE CHIEF PRIESTS, AND SCRIBES, AND BE KILLED, AND AFTER THREE DAYS RISE AGAIN. AND HE SPAKE THAT SAYING OPENLY. AND PETER TOOK HIM, AND BEGAN TO REBUKE HIM. BUT WHEN HE HAD TURNED ABOUT AND LOOKED ON HIS DISCIPLES, HE REBUKED PETER, SAYING, GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN: FOR THOU SAVOUREST NOT THE THINGS THAT BE OF GOD, BUT THE THINGS THAT BE OF MEN.
16-Mk 9:38-40—We Forbade Him, Because He Followeth Not Us
John was corrected by Jesus. It is written, AND JOHN ANSWERED HIM, SAYING, MASTER, WE SAW ONE CASTING OUT DEVILS IN THY NAME, AND HE FOLLOWETH NOT US: AND WE FORBADE HIM, BECAUSE HE FOLLOWETH NOT US. BUT JESUS SAID, FORBID HIM NOT: FOR THERE IS NO MAN WHICH SHALL DO A MIRACLE IN MY NAME, THAT CAN LIGHTLY SPEAK EVIL OF ME. FOR HE THAT IS NOT AGAINST US IS ON OUR PART.
17-Lk 10:38-42—(Martha) Cumbered About Much Serving
Martha was corrected by Jesus. It is written, NOW IT CAME TO PASS, AS THEY WENT, THAT HE ENTERED INTO A CERTAIN VILLAGE: AND A CERTAIN WOMAN NAMED MARTHA RECEIVED HIM INTO HER HOUSE. AND SHE HAD A SISTER CALLED MARY, WHICH ALSO SAT AT JESUS’ FEET, AND HEARD HIS WORD. BUT MARTHA WAS CUMBERED ABOUT MUCH SERVING, AND CAME TO HIM, AND SAID, LORD, DOST THOU NOT CARE THAT MY SISTER HATH LEFT ME TO SERVE ALONE? BID HER THEREFORE THAT SHE HELP ME. AND JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HER, MARTHA, MARTHA, THOU ART CAREFUL AND TROUBLED ABOUT MANY THINGS: BUT ONE THING IS NEEDFUL: AND MARY HATH CHOSEN THAT GOOD PART, WHICH SHALL NOT BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HER.
18-Jn
12:2-8—Mary Anoints Jesus With Ointment;
Let Her Alone (Judas), Against the Day Of
My Burying Hath She Kept This
Judas was corrected by Jesus. It is written, THERE THEY MADE HIM A SUPPER; AND MARTHA SERVED: BUT LAZARUS WAS ONE OF THEM THAT SAT AT THE TABLE WITH HIM. THEN TOOK MARY A POUND OF OINTMENT OF SPIKENARD, VERY COSTLY, AND ANOINTED THE FEET OF JESUS, AND WIPED HIS FEET WITH HER HAIR: AND THE HOUSE WAS FILLED WITH THE ODOUR OF THE OINTMENT. THEN SAITH ONE OF HIS DISCIPLES, JUDAS ISCARIOT, SIMON’S SON, WHICH SHOULD BETRAY HIM, WHY WAS NOT THIS OINTMENT SOLD FOR THREE HUNDRED PENCE, AND GIVEN TO THE POOR? THIS HE SAID, NOT THAT HE CARED FOR THE POOR; BUT BECAUSE HE WAS A THIEF, AND HAD THE BAG, AND BARE WHAT WAS PUT THEREIN. THEN SAID JESUS, LET HER ALONE: AGAINST THE DAY OF MY BURYING HATH SHE KEPT THIS. FOR THE POOR ALWAYS YE HAVE WITH YOU; BUT ME YE HAVE NOT ALWAYS.
19-Jn 20:24-28—(Thomas) Nail Prints
Thomas was told by Jesus to be not faithless, but believing. It is written, BUT THOMAS, ONE OF THE TWELVE, CALLED DIDYMUS, WAS NOT WITH THEM WHEN JESUS CAME. THE OTHER DISCIPLES THEREFORE SAID UNTO HIM, WE HAVE SEEN THE LORD. BUT HE SAID UNTO THEM, EXCEPT I SHALL SEE IN HIS HANDS THE PRINT OF THE NAILS, AND PUT MY FINGER INTO THE PRINT OF THE NAILS, AND THRUST MY HAND INTO HIS SIDE, I WILL NOT BELIEVE. AND AFTER EIGHT DAYS AGAIN HIS DISCIPLES WERE WITHIN, AND THOMAS WITH THEM: THEN CAME JESUS, THE DOORS BEING SHUT, AND STOOD IN THE MIDST, AND SAID, PEACE BE UNTO YOU. THEN SAITH HE TO THOMAS, REACH HITHER THY FINGER, AND BEHOLD MY HANDS; AND REACH HITHER THY HAND, AND THRUST IT INTO MY SIDE: AND BE NOT FAITHLESS, BUT BELIEVING. AND THOMAS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HIM, MY LORD AND MY GOD. JESUS SAITH UNTO HIM, THOMAS, BECAUSE THOU HAST SEEN ME, THOU HAST BELIEVED: BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HAVE NOT SEEN, AND YET HAVE BELIEVED.
20-Jn 21:15-19—(Peter) Lovest Thou Me?
Peter had gone back to his old occupation after the resurrection of Jesus. Others had also gone with him. Jesus confronted Peter three times with the question, "Lovest thou Me?" It is written, SO WHEN THEY HAD DINED, JESUS SAITH TO SIMON PETER, SIMON, SON OF JONAS, LOVEST THOU ME MORE THAN THESE? HE SAITH UNTO HIM, YEA, LORD; THOU KNOWEST THAT I LOVE THEE. HE SAITH UNTO HIM, FEED MY LAMBS. HE SAITH TO HIM AGAIN THE SECOND TIME, SIMON, SON OF JONAS, LOVEST THOU ME? HE SAITH UNTO HIM, YEA, LORD; THOU KNOWEST THAT I LOVE THEE. HE SAITH UNTO HIM, FEED MY SHEEP. HE SAITH UNTO HIM THE THIRD TIME, SIMON, SON OF JONAS, LOVEST THOU ME? PETER WAS GRIEVED BECAUSE HE SAID UNTO HIM THE THIRD TIME, LOVEST THOU ME? AND HE SAID UNTO HIM, LORD, THOU KNOWEST ALL THINGS; THOU KNOWEST THAT I LOVE THEE. JESUS SAITH UNTO HIM, FEED MY SHEEP. VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO THEE, WHEN THOU WAST YOUNG, THOU GIRDEDST THYSELF, AND WALKEDST WHITHER THOU WOULDEST: BUT WHEN THOU SHALT BE OLD, THOU SHALT STRETCH FORTH THY HANDS, AND ANOTHER SHALL GIRD THEE, AND CARRY THEE WHITHER THOU WOULDEST NOT. THIS SPAKE HE, SIGNIFYING BY WHAT DEATH HE SHOULD GLORIFY GOD. AND WHEN HE HAD SPOKEN THIS, HE SAITH UNTO HIM, FOLLOW ME. Peter was being told to feed the lambs and sheep of Jesus and not to go back to his worldly job, as proof that he loved Jesus.
21-Jn 13:4-10—(Peter) Foot Washing
Peter was admonished by Jesus, regarding his feet being washed. It is written, HE RISETH FROM SUPPER, AND LAID ASIDE HIS GARMENTS; AND TOOK A TOWEL, AND GIRDED HIMSELF. AFTER THAT HE POURETH WATER INTO A BASIN, AND BEGAN TO WASH THE DISCIPLES’ FEET, AND TO WIPE THEM WITH THE TOWEL WHEREWITH HE WAS GIRDED. THEN COMETH HE TO SIMON PETER: AND PETER SAITH UNTO HIM, LORD, DOST THOU WASH MY FEET? JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HIM, WHAT I DO THOU KNOWEST NOT NOW; BUT THOU SHALT KNOW HEREAFTER. PETER SAITH UNTO HIM, THOU SHALT NEVER WASH MY FEET. JESUS ANSWERED HIM, IF I WASH THEE NOT, THOU HAST NO PART WITH ME. SIMON PETER SAITH UNTO HIM, LORD, NOT MY FEET ONLY, BUT ALSO MY HANDS AND MY HEAD. JESUS SAITH TO HIM, HE THAT IS WASHED NEEDETH NOT SAVE TO WASH HIS FEET, BUT IS CLEAN EVERY WHIT: AND YE ARE CLEAN, BUT NOT ALL.
22-Mk 16:14—The Disciples’ Unbelief And Hardness of Heart
Jesus rebuked the eleven apostles. It is written, AFTERWARD HE APPEARED UNTO THE ELEVEN AS THEY SAT AT MEAT, AND UPBRAIDED (or rebuked) THEM WITH THEIR UNBELIEF AND HARDNESS OF HEART (or stubborn refusal), BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED NOT THEM WHICH HAD SEEN HIM AFTER HE WAS RISEN.
23-Gal 2:11-14—Paul Corrects Peter
Paul corrected Peter. It is written, BUT WHEN PETER WAS COME TO ANTIOCH, I WITHSTOOD HIM TO THE FACE, BECAUSE HE WAS TO BE BLAMED. FOR BEFORE THAT CERTAIN CAME FROM JAMES, HE DID EAT WITH THE GENTILES: BUT WHEN THEY WERE COME, HE WITHDREW AND SEPARATED HIMSELF, FEARING THEM WHICH WERE OF THE CIRCUMCISION. AND THE OTHER JEWS DISSEMBLED LIKEWISE WITH HIM; INSOMUCH THAT BARNABAS ALSO WAS CARRIED AWAY WITH THEIR DISSIMULATION. BUT WHEN I SAW THAT THEY WALKED NOT UPRIGHTLY ACCORDING TO THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL, I SAID UNTO PETER BEFORE THEM ALL, IF THOU, BEING A JEW, LIVEST AFTER THE MANNER OF GENTILES, AND NOT AS DO THE JEWS, WHY COMPELLEST THOU THE GENTILES TO LIVE AS DO THE JEWS?
24-Lk 5:4-9—Launch Out Into the Deep; Master, We Have Toiled All Night
Peter obeyed the advice of Jesus. It is written, NOW WHEN HE HAD LEFT SPEAKING, HE SAID UNTO SIMON, LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP, AND LET DOWN YOUR NETS FOR A DRAUGHT. AND SIMON ANSWERING SAID UNTO HIM, MASTER, WE HAVE TOILED ALL THE NIGHT, AND HAVE TAKEN NOTHING: NEVERTHELESS AT THY WORD I WILL LET DOWN THE NET. AND WHEN THEY HAD THIS DONE, THEY ENCLOSED A GREAT MULTITUDE OF FISHES: AND THEIR NET BRAKE. AND THEY BECKONED UNTO THEIR PARTNERS, WHICH WERE IN THE OTHER SHIP, THAT THEY SHOULD COME AND HELP THEM. AND THEY CAME, AND FILLED BOTH THE SHIPS, SO THAT THEY BEGAN TO SINK. WHEN SIMON PETER SAW IT, HE FELL DOWN AT JESUS’ KNEES, SAYING, DEPART FROM ME; FOR I AM A SINFUL MAN, O LORD. FOR HE WAS ASTONISHED, AND ALL THAT WERE WITH HIM, AT THE DRAUGHT OF THE FISHES WHICH THEY HAD TAKEN.
25-Jn 11:21-27—(Martha) Concerning the Resurrection
Jesus told Martha that He is the Resurrection and the Life, and then asked her if she believed this. It is written, THEN SAID MARTHA UNTO JESUS, LORD, IF THOU HADST BEEN HERE, MY BROTHER HAD NOT DIED. BUT I KNOW, THAT EVEN NOW, WHATSOEVER THOU WILT ASK OF GOD, GOD WILL GIVE IT THEE. JESUS SAITH UNTO HER, THY BROTHER SHALL RISE AGAIN. MARTHA SAITH UNTO HIM, I KNOW THAT HE SHALL RISE AGAIN IN THE RESURRECTION AT THE LAST DAY. JESUS SAID UNTO HER, I AM THE RESURRECTION, AND THE LIFE: HE THAT BELIEVETH IN ME, THOUGH HE WERE DEAD, YET SHALL HE LIVE: AND WHOSOEVER LIVETH AND BELIEVETH IN ME SHALL NEVER DIE. BELIEVEST THOU THIS? SHE SAITH UNTO HIM, YEA, LORD: I BELIEVE THAT THOU ART THE CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, WHICH SHOULD COME INTO THE WORLD.
26-Mk 9:33-37—Who Should Be Greatest?
Jesus counseled with the disciples. It is written, AND HE CAME TO CAPERNAUM: AND BEING IN THE HOUSE HE ASKED THEM, WHAT WAS IT THAT YE DISPUTED AMONG YOURSELVES BY THE WAY? BUT THEY HELD THEIR PEACE: FOR BY THE WAY THEY HAD DISPUTED AMONG THEMSELVES, WHO SHOULD BE THE GREATEST. AND HE SAT DOWN, AND CALLED THE TWELVE, AND SAITH UNTO THEM, IF ANY MAN DESIRE TO BE FIRST, THE SAME SHALL BE LAST OF ALL, AND SERVANT OF ALL. AND HE TOOK A CHILD, AND SET HIM IN THE MIDST OF THEM: AND WHEN HE HAD TAKEN HIM IN HIS ARMS, HE SAID UNTO THEM, WHOSOEVER SHALL RECEIVE ONE OF SUCH CHILDREN IN MY NAME, RECEIVETH ME: AND WHOSOEVER SHALL RECEIVE ME, RECEIVETH NOT ME, BUT HIM THAT SENT ME.
It is written, WHOEVER IGNORES CORRECTION LEADS OTHERS ASTRAY-Pv 10:17 NIV.
The Bible shows us that some
will not receive God’s CORRECTION BUT CONTINUE TO BE HOSTILE TOWARD ME (towards
God)-Lev 26:23 NIV.
Some may even SAY, "HOW
I HATED DISCIPLINE! HOW MY HEART SPURNED CORRECTION!"-Pv 5:12 NIV.
God warns, BUT HE WHO HATES
CORRECTION IS STUPID-Pv 12:1 NIV.
HE WHO HATES CORRECTION WILL
DIE-Pv 15:10 NIV.
God’s
Word tells us, A MOCKER RESENTS CORRECTION; HE WILL NOT CONSULT THE WISE-Pv
15:12 NIV.
IN VAIN I PUNISHED YOUR PEOPLE;
THEY DID NOT RESPOND TO CORRECTION-Jere 2:30 NIV.
It is written, O LORD…YOU STRUCK
THEM, BUT THEY FELT NO PAIN; YOU CRUSHED THEM, BUT THEY REFUSED CORRECTION.
THEY MADE THEIR FACES HARDER THAN STONE AND REFUSED TO REPENT-Jere 5:3 NIV.
THEREFORE SAY TO THEM, ‘THIS
IS THE NATION THAT HAS NOT OBEYED THE LORD ITS GOD OR RESPONDED TO CORRECTION.
TRUTH HAS PERISHED; IT HAS VANISHED FROM THEIR LIPS’-Jere 7:28 NIV.
SHE OBEYS NO ONE, SHE ACCEPTS
NO CORRECTION. SHE DOES NOT TRUST IN THE LORD, SHE DOES NOT DRAW NEAR TO HER
GOD-Zeph 3:2 NIV.
For
those that take heed to correction, God’s Word says, BUT WHOEVER HEEDS CORRECTION
IS HONORED-Pv 13:18 NIV.
BUT WHOEVER HEEDS CORRECTION
SHOWS PRUDENCE-Pv 15:5 NIV.
WHOEVER HEEDS CORRECTION GAINS
UNDERSTANDING-Pv 15:32 NIV.
HE WHO HEEDS DISCIPLINE SHOWS
THE WAY TO LIFE-Pv 10:17 NIV.
Prideful people often resent
correction; however, correction is a way of life for those that truly follow
Jesus. The Scriptures relate to us many that were very religious, but they would
not follow Jesus and receive correction. Many in the Bible appeared to be saved,
but Jesus showed them they were not. They would not receive correction humbly,
as a little child. Many Pharisees, scribes, lawyers, Herodians, Sadducees, and
others had the appearance of being saved. People thought they were saved and
followed them. Yet the one indicator that they were not saved is that they would
not humbly receive the correction of God’s Word and obey it. They obeyed their
own ways and traditions. They were positive they were saved, even when Jesus
clearly showed them that they were not. Jesus would tell them such things as:
FOR SUCH ARE FALSE APOSTLES,
DECEITFUL WORKERS, TRANSFORMING THEMSELVES INTO THE APOSTLES OF CHRIST.
AND NO MARVEL; FOR SATAN HIMSELF
IS TRANSFORMED INTO AN ANGEL OF LIGHT.
THEREFORE IT IS NO GREAT
THING IF HIS MINISTERS ALSO BE TRANSFORMED AS THE MINISTERS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS-2
Cor 11:13-15.
Lk
11:44-WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! FOR YE ARE AS GRAVES
WHICH APPEAR NOT, AND THE MEN THAT WALK OVER THEM ARE NOT AWARE
OF THEM.
Lk 11:44 NIV-"WOE
TO YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE LIKE UNMARKED GRAVES, WHICH MEN WALK OVER
WITHOUT KNOWING IT."
Jesus
showed those who would not receive correction that they were not saved. Note
the words of Jesus to them:
YE ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL-Jn
8:44.
I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, YE BELIEVE
ME NOT-Jn 8:45.
YE ARE NOT OF GOD-Jn 8:47.
MY WORD HATH NO PLACE IN YOU-Jn
8:37.
YE DO THE DEEDS OF YOUR FATHER
(which is the devil)-Jn 8:41.
JESUS SAID UNTO THEM, IF GOD
WERE YOUR FATHER, YE WOULD LOVE ME: FOR I PROCEEDED FORTH AND CAME FROM GOD…YE
CANNOT HEAR MY WORD-Jn 8:42,43.
YE HAVE NOT KNOWN HIM (referring
to God in heaven)-Jn 8:55.
Jesus called them liars; as it is written, A LIAR LIKE UNTO YOU.
Even
though Jesus showed them they were not saved, they were still positive they
were; as it is written, BUT NOW YE SAY, WE SEE-Jn 9:41. The people were sure
they understood things correctly and were saved.
The people said, WE HAVE ONE
FATHER, EVEN GOD-Jn 8:41.
Jesus Himself showed how the
people believed that the Father in heaven was their God; as it is written, MY
FATHER…YE SAY, THAT HE IS YOUR GOD-Jn 8:54.
Jesus told them, YOUR SIN REMAINETH-Jn
9:41.
Will "you" receive
correction as a little child? As it is written, VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, EXCEPT
YE BE CONVERTED, AND BECOME AS LITTLE CHILDREN, YE SHALL NOT ENTER INTO
THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN-Mt 18:3.
The
people heard the voice of truth, which is God’s Word. They heard the voice of
the devil in their thoughts, which were lies. Their heart chose to believe the
voice of lies.
Some people choose to believe
the deceptions of unsaved pastors. Others choose to believe God’s Word, as they
examine themselves in truth.
WHICH VOICE DO YOU CHOOSE TO BELIEVE?
